- Old-BiscuitExplorer IIILots of restrictions.......no weekends, 1 night only, can't use on holidays, off-season only etc.
And then there are places that will allow use for complete stay.
Some places are passable for overnight stay........some places are really nice CGs.
Some places limit to basic site only.....some places any/all sites available
For $44/yr........if you can't recoup costs that is your fault. - Desert_CaptainExplorer IIIPA is hands down the best deal available in a membership. As noted you have your money back after just a couple of nights. Just check their website or your members book to select sites along your route. While most of the PA parks are Sunday thru Thursday for the 50% discount many are 7 days a week except for the big holiday weekends. We saved about $200 in the last year and were satisfied with every park we stayed at.
No, they are not fancy high end parks but you get either full hook ups or water/electric with a dump station in a nice secure, often gorgeous locations. We use our PA membership the most when traveling on longer trips as there are usually multiple choices available at the end of the day. It's nice to able to make a phone call, verify what awaits and know you will have a great place to spend the night. Works for me!
:C - _Sea_Of_No_CareExplorerWe just purchased PPA at Camping World for $39.95, and are currently in NOLA for five nights paying $41.00 a night for an $83.00 site. Its paid for itself in one night.
- rockhillmanorExplorerIf you are on a 'destination' trip and can plan ahead maybe. Or otherwise they make it so difficult so as not to hand out their precious discounts easily.
I full time travel all over and when ever I looked up a PA CG the restrictions where 'never' within my time frame.
Some you have to stay several days to get a discount, or during the week or only on a Wednesday on a certain date within a certain month.
And lastly if I did find one that suited my time in place when I called they said they had cancelled the discounts. Their list of CG's offering discounts is WAY outdated. I think these CQ's advertise in passport america just to get the exposure and have no intentions of giving free day camping discounts.
You have to be at the right day and right time when the moon is in a certain phase to ever get one of their discounts. IMHO, just saying from my experience. I did not renew my membership. - horton333ExplorerI recently went through a thread on this, many helpful replies, summary seems to be you are going to get your money or more back. There will be hassles with restrictions, you are not going to get much in peak unless you ask and there happens to be empty sites, but the PA website summary of those restrictions is reasonably accurate.
The campgrounds do tend to be smaller, which may or may not be an issue for you (for me it can be an advantage, I prefer a site off to the side in the trees to site 364 on lane 6)
I am going to sign up, looks like no way to loose for me specifically. I will be traveling enough there seems little doubt I will get numerous nights out of it, indeed I already and looking at a place for 2 weeks in May and will save $17/night for everything but the May long weekend. - Compare the campground ratings from the Good Sam directory.
Some of the campgrounds are very low or not listed.
There is very good ones and the price is right. - pyoung47ExplorerBought my membership Monday, and already recouped the cost here in Austin.
- Kit_CarsonExplorerAfter a couple of stays in PPA parks you will have recovered your fee. We use them only as overnighters on our way to our destination. Just us two old folks, so no interest in pools, games, etc. We like them.

Anyone have anything to say good ,bad or indifferent about Passport America Campgrounds memberships.
How often do you travel? Check out the campgrounds listed on their site and the restrictions. Will it work for you? If a campground is normally $50 and with a PA membership it will be $25/night, then it will only take a couple nights to make up the cost. - PawPaw_n_GramExplorerDon't use it as a primary CG choice. But using it once or twice a year for a quick overnight stop pays for the membership.
Don't expect first class resorts with tons of amenities. But a good safe overnight stop - yes.
