Plans got changed now going to Bangor maine area for summer

I need help in finding places I may fish as a shore fisherman or wading in shallow waters for trout and salmon. I also would like recommendations for head boat ocean fishing trips at reasonable costs? I am retired and as you do not have a lot of discretionary money for guided trips.

Had to cancel trip to Wash where even I can catch fish without guides or all day struggles.

Do not need a fish on every cast but would like 1/2 an hour catch and release mostly.
  • Good info, thank you

I forgot to say where. Bangor area. And thank all of you good info.

Belfast, Northport, Camden, Rockport are all areas when you may fish from public docks and bridges for mackerel and Pollock. A boat in the bay will produce horse mackerel and strippers.

West branch of Penobscot river (west of Millinocket) for salmon and brook trout. About any brook beside the road in the North Maine Woods roads systems gives you trout fishing opportunities.

East and West Grand lake in Danforth and Grand Lake Stream, respectively, will produce landlocked salmon, brook trout, and lake trout.

All these locations are day trips from Bangor. Or you could even make a day trip into a weeks stay. Beautiful country and friendly people.

    Have fun.

Try the Lobster Buoy Campground in South Thomaston. It right on the ocean and they welcome surf casters.

I will be inland at Pumpkin Patch Resort all summer.
  • Try the Lobster Buoy Campground in South Thomaston. It right on the ocean and they welcome surf casters.
  • You can head north to the golden road and north maine woods, some pretty good brook trout fishing up there, get a Maine atlas and gazetteer. also northmainewoods.org is helpful
  • I'll be in Maine this summer as well, with my wife, for about a month. Staying on a private spring fed lake with plenty of Togue to catch. Be sure to get a non resident license. Maine Game Wardens have no humor.
  • Since you are heading for a coast, try something different. Surf and shore fishing for Striped Bass is great all along the maine coast,
A quick google search will find numerous help and how to articles for different regions.
