Power outage OBX

If you are going to the OBX, you better check before you leave. Ocracoke and Hatteras island have mandatory evacuations for visitors because of no power.News link
  • It sure is, fly in equipment and lay new cables.

    Well, not exactly.

PCL Construction had excavated the ground and installed a box to give the crew easier access to the break. A pump truck was removing water from the box, an effort complicated by water constantly refilling the space.

If they don't do the trench work correctly it can be fatal. It's not something that should be rushed.
  • Ironic that the power cables are underground in this area because hurricanes kept knocking down the poles.

We're not talking about a rupture in one of NYC's superconducting transmission cables here.

    I forget the sarcasm smiley.

Very disappointing that anywhere in the US let alone the eastern seaboard would take weeks to get power restored after a construction accident.

  • Latest as of this afternoon (Sat 29th) is it could be days or weeks before power is restored.
