Quartzsite - Favorite BLM Area and Why?

Which BLM area do you prefer to boondock on when you visit Quartzsite and why?

I always found Hi Jolly to be way overcrowded and Plomosa Rd little better. I prefer Scadden Wash due to its proximity to the big tent show and vendors south of the I-10, but it does get crowded the closer you get to town. The views from Dome Rock, however, seem to be the best with the boondocking spots spread out better than the other areas. Roadrunner doesn't seem to be used as much as the other areas and because of that I like it better than those north of the interstate. Never stayed at the LTVA, so I can't comment on that.
  • Las Posas West down far enough old Yuma Rd. away from the crowds. Take the wash to get to the tent, silly Als etc.

Hmmmm ... we go to Quartzite for the rocks, the bakery, and the fantastic Pow Wow cafeteria meals. The Pow-Wow's drycamp parking lot is clean and dust-free, only $5/night, isn't crowded at all, and has a free shuttle that runs all day long to transport you a few feet from your camping spot right to a few feet from the Pow Wow main area. Generators are allowed and we hear almost none - except for the low humming of ours occasionally. It couldn't be better.

I wonder why folks camp out in the desert around town so they have to drive in to everything? When we boondock out in the desert it isn't near anything social, including small towns - if we can help it.

cause it's cheaper :D we can't afford to pay every where we camp as we do this 5 months/year.

never been to Quartzite, what time of year does it start to get busy. Have a friend who was there several years ago and they stayed at an RV park Hog wash something or other. for a first time visitor what would your recommend? Do not mind 'boon docking', but only for month or maybe two. do not have a toad, unless we took the 5th wheel and not the TC. was thinking of Dec and Jan.

January usually. The middle of the month when the rv show is in town, it's positively CROWDED but I love it:)
  • Do most of you go there alone or with a group? I saw many groups that meet there every January for years. Too bad there isn't an RV.net group that meets there where we can put a face on the screen name. Or maybe not? I know some don't always agree on things.

sounds like maybe mid Dec. thru Jan. might get there before the crowd and leave after the rv show. six weeks should be plenty.
  • I like Scadden Wash. I'll camp close to the LTVA boundary where there's hardly anybody else around. The interstate noise isn't bad there. It's a terrific area to ride my dual sport motorcycle. Dripping Springs loop is a favorite. Lots of trails in the area.
  • We're out Plomosa. There are TONS of motorhomes. Not like when the RV show is there, but where we're camped we can see a bunch of RV's.

I wish there were less people here lol

We TRIED to eat at Silly Al's pizza, and the parking lot was full and there was a line outside. Left and went to Darlene's.
  • We stay at LaPosa South ... like to spend time away from the crowds.
