The lady at the front desk said "we don't do factory tours anymore". I didn't ask further, such as about maybe an appointment or a large group tour. Just the museum is open to the public. - John_S_Explorer III really liked the tour when I took it a few years ago. Did you get to walk thru the custom shop and talk to the guys there too?

- TvovExplorer IIUpdate: Very much worth stopping for! My son and I were expecting an little room with some shotguns - Nope! A well laid out museum with guns from matchlocks all the way to the latest sporter rifles. Also had a Remington bicycle (yes, Remington made bicycles a long time ago), Remington typewriter, and just a bunch of other stuff that Remington has dabbled in over the, well, centuries.
Son was impressed when he saw a Remington Moison-Nagant (sp?) rifle, part of a special order made for Russia after Germany attacked them. I guess they are rather rare, even though they made 65,000 of them at the time.
The museum is open to the public during normal business hours. You can skim through it in under an hour, but if you appreciate the history of guns give yourself 2 hours. The receptionist said there are no factory tours... I don't know if you can make an appointment for a group, I should have asked.
Gift shop was good, too. Everything thing from coffee mugs and keychains, hats, T-shirts, etc to gun cleaning supplies and maintenance tools. The prices surprised me, I didn't think the stuff was expensive at all, especially as it is a "gift shop".
As for parking, there is a medium size parking lot to the left as you approach for the museum, and a variety of larger ones scattered about. I had plenty of room to loop around with my truck and TT. - TvovExplorer II

Thanks... I have to look at our travel times and see if we can make it. I'll try calling them to see if we can walk around without an appointment. - remdog_1ExplorerWent there with a group several years ago, we had to make an appointment. It takes about 1 1/2 hours to tour.
- D___MExplorerLet me Google that for you.
Remington is not totally leaving NYS - yet! They are killing off 2 of the lines produced in Ilion, the Bushmaster rifle and the R1 pistol lines and are moving them to Huntsville, AL. Good for Huntsville, devastating for Ilion. - pitchExplorer IIDo you have a press release to that effect? Remington did decide to build a new plant in another friendlier state but nothing about shutting down the Ilion plant.
- Matt_ColieExplorer III have not been there, but if you are interested, you better get there soon. Remington is leaving New York State for good. I have not heard if the museum is staying.
