All the times we would go to Coeur d' Alene from Plumas County (before we moved there) we ended up going up through 395 to the A-3 turnoff, back onto 395 to Alturas, 199 to 39/139 to Klamath Falls then to 97 through Bend to Biggs Junction OR, I-84 to I-82 to Tri-cities back onto 395, to I-90, to CDA.
We had special gas stops for easy in and out. Stayed generally at the Likely Place RV Park, in Bend (once at the KOA in Culver OR) and Boardman Marina RV Park. Longest stint is about 5 hours.
Again, this was done for short hops to RV Parks located the right distance apart and gas stops that were easy.
