Can anyone suggest a park which is nice with level sites and also most important, safe? We don't like sitting on dirt or mud in case it rains. I was told don't stay in New Orleans because of the crime? I have no idea if this is a true statement or not. We would like to go this fall on our way to AZ.We have never been there but we hear it's something everyone should see?Toban

I highly recommend the French Quarter RV Park. We stayed there this past Spring despite other RVers telling us it wasn't in a safe area. We were able to walk to the visitors' center and get tickets on the Hop On/Hop Off bus which stopped there. It takes you all around New Orleans. Since we don't have a toad, we took taxis at night with no problem. The RV park itself is very nicely manicured with helpful staff.

Right now it is not good there have been shootings in the french quarter which iss where most tourists want to be.I also feel the reality of New Orleans French Quarter is worse than the myth. That said here are plenty of beautiful and interesting places to see in New OrleansYour post gives no hint as to your rig. Will you have transport into the city?

Not as bad as some state. It is a big city. Know when to call it a day. While larger I felt about as safe in New York City as I do in New Orleans. Enjoy your trip. French Quarter RV Park is very near to the sights and is secure. Talk to the people there about transportation.

Ranked 12th was New Orleans Conti St./Marais St. which happens to be just west of the route from FQRVP to the French quarter. previously I found a web site that showed the area just East of that route to be a high crime area. I guess there is a small oasis in between where it is perfectly safe to walk at night. I mean if it was a bad neighborhood, wouldn't they put a block wall with razor wire on top of it around the park?I always stayed either at the KOA in Slidel or the one on the West side of town. you can take streetcar from there to down town.bumpy

A Lousiana native here and former NO resident, I will add a couple of comments. New Orleans is like every large city in that there are area's where casual visitors just should not go, particularly at night and especially late at night, remember nothing good happens after midnight. Now NO does have the disadvantage that one of those bad areas is close to it's major attraction, the French Quarter. My advice, which we follow on every visit, is do the French Quarter during the daytime and early evening, then head on back to the camper or elsewhere. Now if you are a partier and want to party late, stay in the main FQ area, avoid the fringes and take a cab back to wherever you are staying do not walk late an night especially if you are feeling "happy" after your party. BTW I have been given essentially the same warnings when I have stayed in Chicago, New York City, Indianapolis, well you get the message.Now let me add that that are so many things to do and see in NO and the surronding area that in our visits the FQ is just a couple of hours of time, doing a little shopping in some of the unique shops in the Quarter, and the absolute requirement of Cafe Dumond for coffee and beignets. Also plan to have a least one meal at one of the great resturants in the Quarter but there are also many outside of there. I would advise, and I hate when people say "just do a search", but I do have to say on this site there have been a great many comments about NO. Also contact the visitors bureau they will provide you with all the info you need for a great visit.Have fun, allow more time, and oh yeah go on a diet before hand so you can enjoy the tremendous variety of great food in the area.

Your post gives no hint as to your rig. Will you have transport into the city?
