Renee, I had not thought about using the not-yet-hot water to flush the toilet -- great idea! And I like the idea of using gray water to put out a fire -- we usually don't have a fire, for fear of a forest fire, but it seems that gray water could be used for that purpose.
Jerry, the black tank can't be emptied and dumped when boondocking. It's just wrong, in my opinion, to dump sewage on public land. Having said that, though, backpackers certainly go to the bathroom in the wild. They just dig a hole and bury it. So boondockers can do the same thing, perfectly legally. That would reduce the amount of stuff flowing into the black tank.
I just remembered one more tip -- when I shave, I use a large plastic cup for the hot water. It provides enough hot water to rinse my razor, without filling up the whole sink.
