Good point about paper plates and fires. For this reason I went to cheap plastic shallow tupperware that I use in the microwave until it falls apart. I don't like fires for several reasons, but mainly because it requires effort to build them and monitor them.
Regarding dishwashing: The closer I get to an empty water tank, the more I start reusing "dirty" dishes. Let's face it, they're only "dirty" with food you've been eating. Therefore, not uncommon for me to leave breakfast plates out and reuse them later. Since I microwave everything, this is not as ghastly as it sounds--it all gets mixed in and cooked.
Under the category of "Too Much Information": On the Olympic Penninsula, where the damp climate meant that food on dishes would go bad quickly, I would store my dirty dishes in the fridge.
