Although it is true that most Corps of Engineers parks are east of the Mississippi, most of the BLM areas are in the West.
If you feel you have the means to dry camp you have free access to some of the most beautiful spots in the country. Try asking some of the folks that inhabit the "Public Lands, Boondocking and Dry Camping" forum. I envy the access y'all, in the West, have to these resources.
