Rock Chips in the RGV

I have driven all over the country and have never seen the problem with chipped windows like we have in the Valley. I average one per year, some even more. Anyone know the reason? I usually get them on the Freeway but hate to avoid using it. While I am on here, any good repair places worth mentioning?

(Not as troublesome as the fire ants, but close to it)
