I finally got to talk to the owner of the park and this is how he explained it. The managers could have prevented the whole problem but either didn't understand or whatever. Anyhow the monthly period starts and ends on the same date, whatever it may be.

Last winter we arrived at Myrtle Beach Travel Park on January 9th and left on February 25th. They gave me the equivalent monthly rate for two months even though we were not there for the full two months; it was cheaper than the weekly and daily rates.

I had never really thought about it and have always thought of a month to month as starting on the first of the month. Years ago, when I rented and we moved in before the first of the month, there was always a prorated portion up until the first of the month.

But with the question that was brought forth, it made me thing about it more. And as cheap as some RV'ers are, they will be complaining about paying X amount of money for a month and only get 28 or 30 days this month, when it includes 31 another.

In my book a monthly rental is from the date in one month to the same date in the next month.

Is it a deal?

Post the name of the campground and let public opinion take its course. If it is a fair deal, okay. If not, it will be known.

So how would (or should) a campground rate it if someone shows up on the 10th of the month? Prorate it for that month? Not allow the rest of that month to get the monthly discounted rate? Charge the regular daily/weekly fee for the next 3 weeks?

SD law dictates 'calender month' as a rental period. The number of days in a particular month is meaningless, as is the beginning date of that monthly rental.
Research landlord/tenant rules in your state. Take appropriate action.
