RV Park cabin camping

The wife and I are planning a trip from SoCal to Kansas City next summer. We flew last time, but our Golden is getting older and doesn't do well when boarding with a friend. We considered taking the trailer but with our advanced age, it would take us a week to get there as about 5 hours of towing a day is our limit (my wife won't drive anymore and that's probably a good thing). Add a couple of days break along the way and it gets too expensive.

We are considering just driving and staying at RV parks that have "tiny houses" that we are seeing in more and more RV parks.

We're not big on Motels so how would one locate parks that have those type of facilities?
  • Based on the prices I've seen for the rental cabins at RV parks you would be able to save money by staying in motels instead.

I recently took a week long trip and was able to find good clean motel rooms between $35 to $60 along the way. All accepted pets and provided free breakfast, one even provided a free dinner.
  • Some of the cabins won't allow pets. Check before making your decision. I would motel if your goal is to just get there as quickly as possible. Cooking and bath facilities are usually non-existent, unless you pay quite a bit. Also, many motels include a free breakfast, making them more affordable.
  • More thoughts:

Many "tiny houses" have the bed in a loft with a steep ladder. Can you get to the bed?

Also, sometimes those rental cabins are known as "park models" and they are quite common in areas where snowbirds flock.

Here in SoCal, some state parks and county parks have them also.

Check the amenities: bathrooms? heat? mattresses?

I'm thinking that you should reconsider motels.
X2, some of those cabins can cost as much or more than a motel room, and aren't necessarily any cleaner.
