Beg, borrow, steal or buy a copy of The Milepost. Our trip: https://2013alaska.blogspot.com/ We wanted to drive the entire Alaskan Highway Dawson Creek to Delta Junction. Took tours in Fairbanks, Denali, Kenai Penninsula and Valdez. Kenai is spectacular. The passenger ferry from Haines to Jenau was the best tour of all. Enjoyed the short ferry run from Haines to Skagway.
Call for reservations a few days ahead and there are various pull offs otherwise. Keep fuel above a half tank and expect the next great stop will be closed. SLOW DOWN as these are not lower 48 roads. Met a guy in Dawson Creek on his 19th day there and his parts for the bent 5er hitch had just arrived.
