- uncle_tExplorerwe did a week in cherry hill and it was great in reference to the shuttle and metro. our coach was inundated with stink bugs who remained with us for more than a year. not a pleasant experience if your nose works. those suckers live forever.

Fairfax County Park is a great choice if you can get in. Another decent choice depending on your preferences is Greenville Farm Family Campground. A little farther away then some of the others but still convenient if you hop on the Metro in the Fairfax station. About 30 minutes in rush hour.
Not a resort by any means, they have a pool, showers, great scenery, very relaxing. They have a woodsy section and a pull-through section for larger RV's. Can be a little soggy in heavy rains - we found that out. Summer no issues at all. Cheap by Washington DC standards. Lots of shopping and eating around the area.
Thanks for the tip on Greenville Family Farm, That was one I never heard of. - bjcj7422ExplorerBoy I thank everyone that has replied to my post. These are all great ideas and I am going to look into making reservations tomorrow starting with Cherry Hill.

Drove into town by our selves, paid $21 per day to park within a block of trolley tours. we then paid the couple day tour deal for that and saw an awful lot with the hop on and hop off. We enjoyed it but we should have stayed another week. The park is nice just try to camp at the far end where spaces are large. Enjoy your trip. Good Luck & Be Safe ! ! !

- GREGORYJExplorerGreenbelt Park is also very close to Collage Park Metro, in fact a 30 walk mostly thru the park or a 5 minute drive. It's a National Park Service park and the campground has 174 sites. Last year we paid $16/day. No services but park has showers, water fill up & dump station. We stayed there for 12 days.

The greatest secret for DC camping is Fairfax County Park. Half the price of Cherry Hill & no drone of beltway traffic. No bus outside the gate but a new Metro station with parking not far away. Plenty of very long sites & all of them well spaced. Much more like a far from a city SP than a place to park.
There are a few alternatives that are much cheaper.
Pohick Bay And Little Bennett are nice places. However the alternatives don't cater to the tourist like Cherry Hill.
If you are familiar with DC the alternative places are worthwhile.
However if you are from out of town and unfamiliar with the area.
Cherry Hill is the undisputed king for those looking to sightsee in DC. - VeebyesExplorer IIThe greatest secret for DC camping is Fairfax County Park. - Rangerman40ExplorerConvenient, yet a pain in the ass..... A 25min bus ride to the metro station and then another 25-30min to get down by the Mall. I got sick of it and called an Uber.
