RV Parks Near Colby or Goodland KS

We are taking our FIRST major trip with our new 5'ver and going to Chatfield State Park in CO to visit family. We are not going to push ourselves, so we are going to stay the first night around Colby or Goodland, KS.

We will be on I70 beginning in Salina and following this to Littleton.

Recommendations???? Love to hear from you!

  • Don't know about the RV Parks at Colby (we usually stay at Paxico) but when we take I-70 to Chatfield SP we get off I-70 at Exit 352 and take CO-86 west to Castle Rock and then up US-85 (Santa FE Drive) to the park. That route avoids the Denver south traffic and is probably shorter. CO-86 is a little rough for the first few miles but smooths out after that. There are a couple of small towns but not much traffic (Sep 2011 and Sep 2012). When you get into the east outskirts of Castle Rock CO-86 turns right on to Founders Parkway which avoids the Castle Rock downtown traffic. That's a good turn not to miss! Chatfield is a great park although it's off the major hiways a bit. When we were there you had to pay the daily entrance fee in addition to the camping fee so we just bought an annual pass.
  • Made reservations yesterday at Goodland KOA. We also went ahead and made our reservations for Chatfield CO state park. I was SHOCKED, only 3 spots left for the time that we are going to be camping there! Must be a popular place for sure! Got Site 182!
  • We stayed at the Goodland KOA - it's been quite a few years now - and it was fine.

    Goodland KOA gets our vote
  • sdianel, that reply was priceless. Check the rvparkreviews.com and what a wealth of information. You were correct, KOA Goodland does have the best reviews. We booked a nite there. Thank you so much!
