Tried to post earlier, but it wouldn't go through. My wife and I have 3 kids (15, 11, 9) and purchase season tickets to Silver Dollar City in Branson MO every year. We're over there about 4 times throughout the year, but would be more if we didn't have to make reservations 2 months out. Friends of ours recommended Treasure Island RV Resort which seems AWESOME. You buy a 1x membership at $2000 (unless you find another owner selling theirs), $180/yr & $8 a night to camp. Full hook-up, concrete, 2 pools, put put golf, fishing ponds and more. Table Rock SP is where we usually camp, but must reserve far out in advance, 30a electric hookup only and costs about $27/night. The resort is our on the edge of town which is a draw, but the draw back is that there's no fires allowed at the sites (not even a propane fire pit) and they're strict on rules. Neither of those scare me away. What are your thoughts? Would you ever do it? I think if we did, we would go 6-7x a year since we're only 1.5hrs away.

Since the youngest is 9, I would do the math for 5 years. The oldest will probably be away to college, the others will be 16 and 14. Might be using it for a few more years for them. It will be around $20 a night for 6 to 7 weeks a year for 5 years.It would be a lot less if you can find a resale and use it for more than 5 years.

This would be a lifetime membership for us. When the kids are grown, we would continue to go there, so over our lifetime, it may be the way to go. Plus, it is worth gold if we can say on Tuesday that we're heading over to Branson for the weekend. We can't do that now because we wouldn't have a reservation. We spoke with the park and they said that they are about 50-60% to capacity over a weekend throughout the year (including Summers), but almost max'd during the big holidays like Memorial day, 4th of July and Labor day. The problem around where I live is that there is a lot of RV'ers/campers, so we have to plan our camping season in Jan/Feb in order to get a reservation; otherwise all the campgrounds/parks are full.

It may be a good membership for you. But I hope that Branson is not your only destination. This country of ours have great National Parks, State Parks and other places to visit.

Oh, not at all. We always have 1 big trip a year and 2018 will be in Yellowstone. We also take quite a few close by weekend trips to St. Louis, Kansas City, etc. We do go to Branson more than any other place though.

Would you be able to spend a long weekend before laying out the cash? Not everything is as it appears. Being locked into a place that doesn't meet your needs or expectations would not be fun. Otherwise it sounds like a good deal.

Never had one of 'those type' memberships.

To many other nice places to stay that don't need that extra expenditure.

We're spending 5 days there over Thanksgiving to check things out. Taking the dogs so we can get the full experience. I do hear what people are saying on too many other nice places to stay, but I've been RV'ing since 2000 and haven't found another place (in close proximity) that has as much to do than Branson. You have the Ozark mountains, Table Rock Lake, a beautiful theme park, tons of shows and great shopping. When we retire in 30 years, we will definitely take advantage of all the different CGs outside of our own little area, but for now, we only have time for one big trip and a whole bunch of small trips.

Nobody can tell you what it is worth to you. Do the math and even if it costs more than you think it might, if it is worth it to you then go for it. Nobody RV's because it is cheap! If they think so they are deluding themselves. We take trips every year that are not cost effective...but we love where we are going and what we are doing. Hope it works out for you.

Watch the Sprinfield, Mo. Craigslist RV for sale section. I have seen these memberships for sale for as little as $200. Recently saw one for $500 plus transfer fees.
