Oh please...there is a brand new WalMart in Brownsville that is about the nicest I've seen in all our RV travels. I think I would take what this person says with a grain of salt. Now with that said...
Remember the RGV is many small cities one right after the other. For the most part they run west to east. IMO, a general rule of thumb is crime/lack of higher education/and low household income seems to all go hand in hand. Household income appears to go up the further east you go, and the farther away from the border(north)you get.
I always suggest somewhere around Harlingen as a good spot to begin with. It's in the middle of things in more ways then just simple location. From there you can tailor your needs, or decide the RGV is not for you.
