April isn't as crowded as summer-does depend how the spring breaks fall. Every school seems to be on a different schedule. Mid week not as bad as wknds. I would recommend reservations at either Doheny or Crystal Cove as soon as you can make them. If you arrive early at either Doheny or Crystal Cove, they usually won't let you into your site. But they will let you into the big parking lots-ocean front one in Crystal Cove (all are near beach in Doheny).
