San Diego County Parks

Planning on spending a couple of weeks in early to mid December. The parks we're looking at are Dos Picos, Guajome and William Heise. Are these parks busy that time of year? Will we need reservations?

Thanks and safe travels.
  • Thanks all! Yes we had planned to stay at Santee Lakes to see attractions in San Diego, and we have reservations there. After that, depending on weather, we thought we would check out some of the other County Parks. We will also look into Sweetwater and Auga Caliente.

    Thanks again and safe travels.
  • At least as a general rule, you shouldn't need reservations Sunday thru Thurs nights. A chance you will for the Friday and Saturday nights-especially with specific plans for specific parks.
  • Heise is in an area that regularly gets snow. Lovely park, BTW, though I have not been in a couple of years.

Consider Agua Caliente for December - it is a desert park with a hot tub. Lovely area!

San Diego County Parks are really great.
  • I liked to stay at Santee Lakes. And while it is in the middle of the city, it does have full hookups, and a lake to be near.

    Fred.
  • If you know what time you are going to be there I would make reservations. Weekdays are probably no problem but some weekends can get busy. San Diego has some nice parks. We spend a couple of times a year at Guajome and love it. We have also stayed at Sweetwater in the upper loop.

Guajome has water and electric with a dump station and the upper loop of Sweetwater has pull thru sites and FHU sites.

We stayed at William Heise several years ago, was okay but at a higher elevation so might be a little colder.
