San Francisco

I am visiting the SF area for bout 10 days this summer with my 24' travel trailer. I am looking for either a spot to boondock in the area or someplace to drop the trailer as I can stay with relatives while there. Walmart is not a viable option as they do not allow overnights and RV parks charge in excess of $80/night. I am willing to look at anywhere within 90 minutes of SF. Any ideas?
  • KOA in Petaluma has good storage rates. I stored mine there for a month or two before we started full timing.

Boondocking is tough in the area.

There are some areas in SF that have looser parking restrictions than others, and you'll see the "urban dwellers" in their old motorhomes in the area that move once/week to avoid street sweeping tickets.

Couple spots I've seen them that are in good areas:

    - Post St (btw Scott & Steiner) around the Hamilton Park

    - Jackson Park/Playground. 17th & Carolina

I'm not sure if the rules are different for trailers, but I lived in SF for a number of years and saw the same RVs in this area time and time again.

Thanks for the advice so far. The Alameda Fairgrounds is $30/night so that is an option. I emailed the San Francisco RV Park; unfortunately, they do not store RV's. Any other advice is eagerly anticipated.

If you happen to stay here there are 2 areas - the north and the south. The north section is nicer with not near as many long term campers.

  • You might try the SF RV Resort in Palmetto. I believe the have an RV storage lot you might be able to stick your rig in for 10 days....Dennis
  • Don't know of any dry camping spots but I think Alameda County Fairgrounds is somewhere in the neighborhood of $35.00 per night.
  • you could try some truck (semi) parking lots. many of those have security fences and lights, etc. or a truck stop parking lot. or one of those trailer storage places (like a boat storage place only trailers and MHs)
