Yes you will be about half way between ocean isle and shallotte, actually right across icw from ocean isle beach. Maybe 3 miles by road to the beach. Definitely good food in the area. I would take 40 then exit to Brunswick county beaches just before Wilmington proper. Then like you said 17 south would get you to shallotte / ocean isle area. Have fun
