Sidney, Nebraska

We are looking at stopping in Sidney on our way home from South Dakota. We were planning on stopping at Cabela's and staying in their RV park, but some of the more recent reviews are not really great. The only other park I can find there is an rv park called Bear Family RV Park, and I can find no reviews or even a website for them. Two questions: anyone with current info on the park at Cabela's, and any info on Bear Family RV Park? Thanks guys
  • We stayed at a campground adjacent to the interestate. Wasn't much, had a cell phone tower in the middle of it. Alot of construction workers staying there. The KOA in Kimbell would be my vote.
  • On a trip west, I stopped at the Cabela's in Sidney, NE. The greeter at the store happened to be one of the founders. We must have talked for an hour. He told me that they originally started in a second floor walkup in downtown Sidney and what they did to keep busy. When I left, I drove by it. The building was empty, but sure enough, the door was full of small holes. Arrow holes.
They've finally opened a store in a suburb of Cincinnati, where I live. I'm not into hunting or fishing, but they have an excellent collection of camping gear. And yes, I spent too much money.
  • KOA in Kimball has closed. We are checking out other campgrounds nearby, too.

Having worked corporate for 22 years. The park is nice for overnight stays nothing fancy but clean and safe. Last August policy was changed in that we no longer take reservations its first come first served. If you wonder why there is a sign that states all rigs must face east. This is due to one of our prior VP's putting the electric water sewer on the incorrect side for design.

As to other closer parks not a lot to pick from. Bridgeport, NE. has one again nothing special, Kimball, NE parks are all closed.

My suggestion since your heading back to Colorado would be to head over to Gering, NE. not out of your way and stay at Robidoux RV Park owned by the city. Also visit the Gering Bakery for take out.

Any other info needed let me know
  • The only choice in town is the Cabelas. The other park is closed down (we tried staying there). We reviewed it here Cabela's They also have some pics and video of the park.

Better call Cabela's ahead of time and make sure it's legal. Seems I saw somewhere that Nebraska doesn't allow overnighting in parking lots.
