I see mixed reviews/thoughts on this.
I am considering my first Walmart overnight stay on this trip, will definitely call ahead.
With 6 people at night, the RV is almost unusable without putting out the slideouts. I can't jackknife the sofa, and the bunks are mostly closed off.
I'm not looking to camp, just park, run in for supplies, eat, sleep, and then head out early in the morning.
We do it all the time - Slides out - jacks down. I've gone into many a Wal*Mart to ask/talk with the Manager and the only thing's I've ever heard is positive - "don't park on the left side , the delivery trucks come in at 4 and will wake you up". Or " Park over by the Stormwater Management Pond - Quiet and out of the way".
The BS about not using the slide out and not using the jacks is just that, BS, Wal*Mart has invited you/us and they have welcomed us with open arms. Don't leave a mess and Do ask for permission.
Enjoy the trip and enjoy your Local Wal*Mart.
JMHO,
On Edit; After reading the other posts, couple things I'd like to mention - First "Most Wal*Mart's have security" so my wife and I feel fine staying in the Parking Lot. All Wal*Marts have Lights and a clear area to drive in - story is about friend in his brand New Essex - wife said NO to Wal*Mart - so he found a CG after dark, after Pulling in he rounded a corner to "Scrape a rock" that had been positioned so as to keep you off the grass - $22,000 DOLLARS LATER he had repaired the side of the Coach - They now meet us in the Wal*Mart parking lot all the time. No we don't Camp at Wal*Mart but we will spend the night when it is the smart thing to do while traveling long days and on many trips from Point "A" to "B", just Makes Sense to ME.
If you don't like it fine then don't do it - but please don't preach to me, I'm not in your church.
;)
