Snowbirding in South Carolina

Anyone out there use the area around Charleston, SC as a winter retreat? Been to Florida and looking to do something different. Biggest concern is what the weather is like in that area, according to previous weather maps it can be anywhere from 40,50- to 80 for the high and lows it looked around the lowest in the 40 with some in the 30s. We can handle cool but not wanting 20-30 lows all the time. Thanks
  • There are quite a few Myrtle Beach snowbirds. Near the ocean the weather is usually milder. But instead of snow, you might find more rain. Just depends on the weather patterns.
  • Part of the magic of the Carolinas in my view is the variances in weather year to year. It's impossible to predict what any given winter is going to be like. I lived in NC for a lot of years and on New Year's day have done everything from play golf in 70 deg weather to shovel snow.

It's like a box of chocolates.
  • A little too cold that far north for me until March or so. If I'm on the East Coast earlier than that my goto spot is Blythe Island Regional Park. Then I start working my way north a couple weeks at a time through GA and SC state parks around the beginning of February.

Several SC State parks have a special monthly rate through March.

I like this site for WX info. Average high of 56/57 and low of 42/43 for January does not look all that good to me.
