- PawPaw_n_GramExplorerI've watched these post for a few years, and they boil down to the same thing every year.
Yes, everyone knows south Florida is the warmest place in the country in winter accessible with an RV. And it costs 2 to 3 times as much as the Gulf Coast and twice as much as Arizona.
Yes, the RGV and the Gulf Coast from Brownsville to Crystal River has a bit of cool weather each winter. Occasionally the temps actually get down to freezing. It's an offset between cost and a little less perfect weather.
Yes, Arizona does have warmer temps than Texas much of the winter, and southern Arizona does have some periods of winter where it is cooler than the RGV.
Yes, southern California has the very best year round weather, but it is also cool in winter, and sometime summer if you are near the coast. I used to need a sweater in San Diego after the sun went down in July if we had winds coming in off the ocean.
So why on earth are folks surprised by weather each winter?
I grew up on the Arkansas/ Louisiana border. I lived most of the last 30 years near Dallas.
Weather south of San Antonio is always better than those locations. True its not as good as the nine years I spent living on tropical islands courtesy of the US Navy (Guam, Philippines, Antigua, Puerto Rico). But I can tow my rig south, and I never have to get out the heavy coats I need when Dallas or Arkansas get socked by four or six inches of solid ice.
What much of the RGV and Texas Gulf do have is an active social calendar for 'winter Texans' (which includes a lot of folks who normally live farther north in Texas - we know the RGV is better than home). I didn't seen anything like that in the Fort Lauderdale area, at least not as much as the RGV.
Perhaps because the winter Texans RV crowd is the largest and main tourist activity in the RGV, Corpus, Rockport, etc. In south Florida and the Keys, we have to 'compete' with thousands of fly-in/ drive-in tourists and are outnumbered 10 to 1.
Maybe those unhappy about RGV weather should consider going south where it is cheaper next year - Cancun ? - empty_nestExplorerI like following all the comments because I can only dream of only 2-4 wks of winter. And, even at that, mid-30's and 40's and 50's would be welcomed right about now. Hope to join you all in Texas in a couple more yrs. Love the place!!
- 8ntw8tnExplorerThis is our 4th season in the Texas Hill Country. Yes, it is cooler than normal and what we wish it was. We've come to expect that we'll experience 3-6 weeks of 'winter' weather and this year is no different; yesterday we had a high of 35 but today it got up to 68. We've come to realize that we don't come here just for the warmer temperatures than what we have back in Iowa, but to continue friendships we have formulated here in the park. We've also found the "locals" to very friendly and welcoming. Every year that we've returned to our Texas location, upon going to our church, the pastor says simply, "Welcome home". And so far, regardless of when we get moisture, I've never had to shovel any of it.
- WE-C-USAExplorerGreat afternoon here, 1-11, at Falcon State Park TX. Sun, mid 60's w/ no wind.
- TomG2ExplorerI agree, I don't think the weather is over for the winter. Keep the comments coming. We even saw the sun for a few seconds this morning here in the RGV.

Texas Hill Country would be my first choice if I didn't have anything else planned. The temps should be nice, and the wild flowers should be starting to show off. - AlanAdamsExplorerIt may be a little cooler than I would prefer. Still enjoying Rockport TX and the surrounding areas. Fishing on the nicer days, and finding other stuff to do when the weather isn't as nice. One thing we still need to do is determine where we are going on April 1st. At this point we have no idea.
