I would be heading south down 39, which is what makes SR appealing, however, looks like the only Saturdays open are at the end of October, so looking elsewhere for the 8th at the moment. Chose this date since the kids have the following Monday off. I am looking at a CG now that is not too far from where I work and close to Dubuque.
Going to check the Hickory Hollows CG and see what they have available, and it nothing open, will look elsewhere. Illini has slots open, but looks like it is a fair distance away. So far we have stayed at three state parks, two in IL, and one in Colorado, and all three were decent places to stay, well, except for the trains. :) Last nights stay at Blanding Landing was....interesting. Need ear plugs, then it would be a good stay.
The CO park we stayed at on our way to Ruby's in Utah, and again on the way back, and will stay there again, only for more than an overnighter, they have an RC flying field! was great. The views were fantastic, a really nice park to stay at. Well worth the trip. The CG close to me is Rock Cut and will do that one again too. Sure can't beat the price of the state and federal parks.
That festival looks interesting, will run that past the group too.
