People do get the undies in a roar over this stuff, don't they. Lots of name calling if someone is not at a fee-for-sleep RV park. To which I say..good for you. Go there. Leaves much more room for others who prefer a less regimented no fee sleeping spot.
For what it is worth...I have done the no-fee plan for evah...and I have never, ever been asked to move on. Parked in industrial areas, city parking areas, near schools, in neighborhoods and by my recollection, one Wal-Mart. Granted, I don't have slides and such, but I am present and if it's a nice evening, more than likely have the door open and the animal on it's leash. I talk to anyone that gets within range..walkers, gawkers, coppers. If I am parked in a populated area I go out of my to say hello..I ask..."you think I am okay here for tonight?" Never been told no. Never been bothered.
I ain't sayin no one has never received the late night knock on the door...but I haven't. And for sure, some of my motivation is money. If I am out for a month, not paying 30+ a night translates into over a thousand bucks in my pocket. If we are talking US dollars, that becomes $1,350.00 in real money. I still spend that loot..but not on a sleeping pad.

X2 I agree. I just have a hard time figuring out why just so many regular folks get so worked up by this issue...WRVPO at least has a motive...money. But the average guy?
I think you do it the right way...politely and with respect and no one should have a problem with that.
I also think it odd that no one has the same visceral reaction to those that camp for free at Qusrtzsite or other similar places.
