  • Take the advice given so far, the website is great. Elevation is 8150 or so. I may be partial to this area, I was a camphost for 3yrs. and will be back doing it again this summer in Sunrise Vista. Come visit, great place and people.
  • You can make reservations 6 months in advance. If you are planning on being there on a weekend in July and want a prime spot, you better reserve now.

Pine beetle kill has devastated the area. It is still one of my favorite places to go, but it isn't the same as it was 10 years ago.

Yarrow Loop and Bridge Island are closest to the water. Wheeler Loop, Lupine, and Rosecrown are very good if you don't have a boat.

Pearl Lake is nearby, has a campground, and is less busy than Steamboat Lake.
  • Here is the Colorado State Parks siteColoState If you select Map it will display the different loops and campsites. Most of the trees have been removed so there are not many shady sites anymore.
Lets just say it is surely not as nice as it once was. We don't visit that campground anymore due to the clear cut conditions.
