Suggestions for Laughlin, NV

There is RV parking way in the back on top of the hill that I thought was overflow but may be the area that Sgt Joe says is the cheap seats. It is too far to walk to the casino in July heat so you'll have to wait for the shuttle. Nor does it look like you'll have a view (but I may be wrong). You should call the Riverside RV park and ask them to email you a map--they don't have one on their website unfortunately. If you want the real cheap (free) sites, I see plenty of RVs parked in the casino parking lot without paying. Of course, no showers, water, or hookup.

We have reservations over July 4th at the Riverside. Yeah, I know it's hot, but we're coming from Phoenix, so....we won't be surprised. It's our first time there and wonder what SgtJoe referred to as the "cheap seats". We may be the only rig there this time of year :) but I'd like to know ahead of time if there's one area that's better than the other. Someone else mentioned the 400 level. I'm hoping we'll have a nice vantage point for some independence fireworks displays too!

If you like watersports, you'll love Laughlin because no one participates in water activities in the winter on the Colorado and you'll have the river to yourself. The water is too cold. You'll find boaters, jetskis, people fishing, etc. in the Summer but almost nothing in the winter when snowbirds are here. We go to the marinas near Laughlin (e.g. Katherine Landing) and they aren't even open during the winter months.

In all the replies, no one has even mentioned the river. Are water sports popular in Laughlin in winter?

All good advice so far. Probably not much new to add, but maybe I'll say it a different way. We've stayed at both, but more often at the Riverside.

The Avi is miles from anything. So, when you stay there, it's to be AT the Avi only. The Riverside is right "in town", so since we're usually there for the casinos, that's where we stay. We don't tow, so we don't stay at Davis Dam.

We found the price to be about the same both places. (Which may make the KOA at Avi the cheapest KOA in the country!)

As for "casino camping" the Avi also has free dry camping available. "In town" we usually stay at the Pioneer. We often spend a week or so dry camping in the casino parking lots, then get a few nights in one of the RV parks to dump, do laundry, recharge batteries, etc.

We have stayed at both the AVI and the Riverside. I like the huge sites at the AVI, they run you 5 bucks a night more then the regular sites. Don't know about the TV cable because we have Satillite. The wifi is good and comes with the cost of the stay. Also, if you have pets, it's a lot better for walking them then the Riverside.

We also have stayed at the Riverside. They usually have a special going for 99 bucks a week and this gives you two breakfast buffets and two lunch or dinner buffets. (includes the Friday seafood buffet) I figured after the free buffet tickets it cost us around 46 bucks for 7 nights, not too shabby. There is one drawback to this, they might try to stick you in what I call the cheap seats. These are just west of the checkin and you are really, really close to your neighbor. They have shuttles to and from the Casino. They also have fenced dog runs, as does the AVI.

If the Riverside tries to stick me in the Cheap Seats I walk out and head to the AVI. Also, at the AVI you can purchase fireworks and set them across the river at a designated area. Usually get a good fireworks show each night. The AVI is KOA, but will also give Military Discounts.

We have camped at Avi, Riverside, Davis Dam and Katherines Landing prior to buying a house in Bullhead City 8 years ago. Given a choice, I would choose Davis Dam or Katherines Landing. There is a full service park and a dry RV camp at Katherines Landing. I prefer the dry camp as the sites are larger, partially treed, quieter, less hectic and you can easily dump and fill at the CG. Since you have a PU, you can easily drive to the casinos in Laughlin from Katherines Landing (a short 5 - 7 minute drive). Davis Dam is also nicer than Avi and Riverside as it is right on the Colorado River. It can get noisy as Hwy 95 runs adjacent to the CG but you'll get used to it. And you can walk to the casinos from the CG since it is next to the Laughlin bridge.

ditto to Riverside RV park or Davis Dam rv park, if you have a toad to drive.
Be sure and take the old route 66 road up through Oatman on one of your excursions in your toad. NOT a road for rvs.

I don't know why you wouldn't consider Davis Park CG on the AZ size of the River unless you don't a vehicle to get around in.
I would even suggest you might consider a couple of nights there and then a night or two boondocking at the casinos. Save yourself a lot of money that way.

Riverside is more convenient. Avi is middle of nowhere imho. We prefer the AZ side. You can see them all Here
