Taylor Park, Colorado

There area variety of options as you head north from the reservoir. My advice is to stay as far back off the main road as possible. If it hasn't rained for a few weeks, the road gets incredibly dusty and with all the motorcycle and ATV traffic, there's a pall of dust hanging in the air. One can travel 1/4 mile back off the road and still find a layer of dust on all the vegetation. Of course with the size of your group and the size of your rigs, you're going to be pretty limited as to where you can get to and fit in. You will see spots on your left on the river as you head north. All of those are very open sites without trees. There are several roads just before and after Dinner Station CG that head east a little further into the trees. You might send a scout out to make sure the rigs can make it and to make sure the sites aren't all full.

Which brings up another issue. Taylor Park in August is a very busy spot. All the good spots of any size are gone by Thursday early afternoon. Hopefully you've got someone in your group than can get up there earlier in the week to snag a good spot.

Another spot to consider is down closer to Tincup on the road from Taylor Park Reservoir. Some good large flat spots on your left in the couple of miles before Tincup. Seems like the dust problem isn't quite as big an issue as the speeds are a little less along this stretch.

I haven't been there in a few years, so some locations may have been closed, but I haven't heard or read anything about that. Just a caveat.

I'll second 4runnerguy's suggestion of heading toward Tincup. You don't have to drive far from Taylor Reservoir to start seeing large open areas. Take a small vehicle to check out for sites rather than driving the RVs. Good luck! It's one of our favorite areas... absolutely beautiful.

Thanks folks! Absolutely appreciate it! I plan on being there several days before the others arrive so this gives me good areas to scout out. I understand the busy in August, but seems it is always tough picking a date that everyone can agree on. The first few days is RZRforums annual ride, so already knew that large group would be there, but hope it will thin out after they leave. Thanks again.

Just north of the reservoir is where the Doctor's Park single track trail begins. That area is popular with mountain bikers, motorcyclists, and hikers. The trail cannot be accessed by anything wider so few people with side by sides or quads camp there. Lots of empty spaces and lots of room to turn around too. But the dust from the traffic on the road is a mess.

Gotcha'. Hopefully we can see how the prevailing wind blows and park on the proper side of the road....... ;)

We went ATVing at Taylor Park a couple of years ago. I remember some very nice boondocking sites off Forest Service Road 742 which heads north from the reservoir. Try roads 3D and 3H which head northeast (right) off of 742. These roads go in a several miles, and there are numerous good sites to pull over. One, either 3D or 3H, was better than the other but I can remember which. Both roads are rough but passable in good weather.

And by all means bring your UTV/ATV. This is ATV heaven!

When you say rough, do you mean wash boards or big rocks or ruts? As long as it is not switchbacks or great big rolling dips or water bars the trailers should be ok, but the motorhomes have pretty low ground clearance. I'll check it out closer on Google now that I have good locations, and we will have a scout vehicle with us. Thanks for the leads.

No switchbacks. It is relatively flat on these roads. But they are primitive roads with little maintenance. If I were you, I would go in with one of your UTVs and check things out first.

We too are doing a guys trip (ATV/Dirtbike) in Taylor Park July 13-17. This will be something different as we have spent the past 3 years in the Big Horns, and one of the best thing about the Big Horns is its not busy.
So I do have a concern about how busy Taylor Park is. We are used to riding for 8 hours and only passing a few people in that 8 hours. My assumption is Taylor Park will not be like that. We try to do a lot of 50" trails and average to above average in technicality. My concern is will there be a lot of people on the trails where we are constantly having to stop and allow people through. Any advice and suggestions would be appreciated.
