I shattered my femur in 2000. Got the pins and rod still in my leg. That's a long recovery, if I recall it was a few months till I was walking in any kind of condition to go vacationing! And probably 6 months till I was cane free.
18 years later now, and I cannot even tell there was ever an injury there, other than the cool scar on my butt where they inserted the rod. Even completed a few running races in the years since then.
