The difference between Beartooth and Road to the Sun?

I have driven each (plus MOKI DUGWAY HWY 261, UTAH) but NOT with my TT only the truck. Also Top of World with the TT. No problem for each.

However, I like riding the bus since I can see more.

The Road to the Sun is somewhat more of a challenge (more narrow) than the Beartooth. I thought the Beartooth (without a TT) was very easy. However, I would not want to drive it with a TT attached.

Of the three, Moki is by far more of a challenge.

As mentioned, the Going to the Sun road is a lot tighter. If your truck is a dually, it will be very tight in some spots with absolutely nothing on the passenger side while going up.

I went up/down twice in a long box single rear wheel truck no problems at all, though it wasn't tourist season so not a lot of traffic. If it was very crowded, would still be doable.

Problem is, there are very few places to stop and they are very small so not many places for the driver to stop and get a good look of the view. I was fortunate that we were held up by construction near the top so had a chance to look around. Otherwise, I would basically had only very quick glances.

If you have a SRW truck, my suggestion would be to take your truck and if he doesn't see enough, may decide you want to take a Red bus.

I've driven 'Road to the Sun' in my Dodge Ram 4x4 Quad Cab Short Box. No problem. Just don't plan to pull your trailer, it's not allowed.

The views are amazing... DW gasped many times as she looked down... down... down... while I drove as close to the edge as I had to to get around some of the curves :D

Going to the Sun is not currently open, it is expected to open by the weekend however, but the road will close Sept 21 (this year), to allow rebuilding the road.
Long term, they are rebuilding Going to the Sun, it will have limited impact during the Tourist season. But that usage pay change. The NPS is currently reviewing options, which includes following other Parks and banning private vehicles during the peak periods.

Try to go very early in the day on GTS road. That way you will have more room at pull offs. There are plenty of sizable pulloffs but they are often very full. We drove it in a extended cab 8' bed Silverado with no problem. Do allow most of the day for the drive because you want to be able to pull off and look around a lot.

Parking is very crowded at Logan Pass, so the earlier the better.

If you take the shuttle, you can hop on and off at any stop. No need to look for parking at Logan Pass or other trailheads.

There is not a big elevation change on GTS Road, the biggest issue is the narrow road and overhangs and tight curves in spots.

Beartooth Pass is totally different from GTS Road. BTP is winding with large elevation changes. The pass is about 4000 feet higher than Logan Pass. There are several good pullouts and stops on BTP but not really extensive hiking trails like those on GTS road.

Trailers are not allowed on GTS Road and it would be foolish to take a trailer over BTP. Not only foolish, but very very unpleasant. Drop your trailer somewhere so you can enjoy the ride.

The limit is 21 ft long, 8 ft wide and 10 ft tall.
I recommend that people travel from east to west if heights bother them at all. That minimizes their "exposure". While west to east as a lot more

re GTTS: east to west will put you on the inside, which helps if you don't like looking doowwwnnnn. :)
it's tough on brakes because it is a loonngg descent.
as stated above, the Moki Dugway is more of a challenge because it narrows down to one lane almost, so you hope you don't meet a wide dually coming up while you're on the outside going down.
I (the wife and passenger) find the Beartooth the most spectacular... second to the 14A descent from Burgess Junction west to Lovell, WY. This last one is called the "oh my God hill", for good reason ;)

I'd suggest for GTTS road that you take the free park shuttle. You can get off and on and do some exploring without having to find a parking place. Also, as stated above, the road has length restrictions for vehicles. Bring up the web site and read all the details of both roads. They are completely different in looks and driving.
