Many moons ago I was a member of the Los Angeles Astronomical Society. They own property in Lockwood Valley, about 90 miles north of LA, and have monthly Star Parties. My wife (girlfriend at the time) went with me one night. She was raised in LA from age 3 or 4. She stayed in the tent reading until it was totally dark. She came over to my pad where several of us were gathered talking. She looked up and commented that it was too bad that all the clouds moved in to obscure the sky. Everyone look at me like "What the hell is she talking about?" She had never seen the Milky Way that clearly in her life. :D
