Thanks for the compliments & critiques! As to the image, it is a composite of 7 images taken with a Nikon D700 & a 17 - 35mm lens, each at f:2.8 & 30 seconds @ ISO 3200.
All images were shot at the same time & combined with Photoshop's panorama tool (no layers). There was a bit of left over daylight that provided the light on the tower. The "line" in the right portion of the image was caused by a cloud.
Here is a single frame, unprocessed image taken at about the same time (7/24/14 @ 9:35PM):
Jon,
Thanks for the explanation and the Image - Beautiful,
We can ALL learn something on how just really hard to just DO it.
Sure looked like a cloud, thanks for clearing that up.
Keep up the Good Work,
Busskipper - dapperdanExplorerLOVE that shot!!!! Nice work .....

There is a straight line and no stars below the line and the Milky way above it. At the minimum he did two exposures and layered them together with some very sloppy selection work that produced that line.

As a photographer and Photoshop user I have to wonder about that straight line above the horizon on the right side.

- John_S_Explorer III have talked with him and we were both on a site for photos and RVing. He is a great photographer and avid long trip RVer. Too bad the site did not stay up but I made some great RV friends. I do not post my pictures here as this is an RV site but as a group, our old site had some pretty awesome shooters. Funny thing is I just took a shot of the camper across the row from me with the mood and the fire but we are too close to the city to get the milky way or many starts. The sky looks light blue at night. I love to shoot at night when I am in the country and our national parks. His sight has lots of great pictures.
- lawnspecialtiesExplorerBack in 1996, Hurricane Fran came through central NC hard. Power was out for days everywhere. That's the only real time I've ever seen the night sky look similar to the pic.
