- greenrvgreenExplorerPassport can definitely be a good deal for the occassional stopover, which the OP said was his goal. As others said, be aware of the restrictions as in most cases it really is only available for a couple days per stay. When I checked around at specific parks I found that the restrictions were rather onerous, and I never did get the pass.
The OP asked about Thousand Trails (TT), and I did the TT zone pass last year and was very pleased with it. As said, it is not an attractive price for the one or two day stopover, but it is an incredibly good deal for a multi-day (up to two weeks) stay on a regular basis. I believe those doing hardcore boondocking will agree that it is nice to have a place where you can relax and recharge at a prepaid, reasonable rate. - chiefneonExplorerHowdy!
Passport America is a good deal and you can recoup your you money in only a few nights use. Go to their Website and look up a few campgrounds. You will see very quickly what the restrictions are (cash only, Monday thru Thursday only, no Holidays, not valid during certain months etc...). That being we still get our monies worth from the membership when we purchased a three year one.

Would anyone care to elaborate on the restrictions? I was considering a membership and would like to know about them before laying down the membership fee.
Al - BumpyroadExplorerTT seems awfully expensive for an occasional night or two. I used Passport America and easily recouped my $40 ? or whatever it was with two nights stay a year. but look at their site and see locations and restrictions.
bumpy - 2gypsies1Explorer IIISince you don't appear to travel the interstates and enjoy getting on secondary roads, consider Passport America for the best deal. You're full-timing so you will not be on a strict schedule so some of the Passport America's restrictions would not even bother you. We used it inbetween boondocking and their restrictions didn't affect us. Thousand Trails is not for you in the way you want to use it.
- Traveler_IIExplorerI have found Passport campground members to have way to many restrictions to be useful.
- kohldadExplorer IIIIf you are only going to use it a few nights a year, then it doesn't seem like it would make financial sense. If you want to use commercial for a night or two here or there, check into Passport America. You can recoupe the cost of annual membership in just a few nights.
