Just means, there is a very nice CG ran by Tom Johnson at the foot of the mountain, on the river, just outside Marion NC. With a short 30 min ride to the Blue Ridge Parkway, Linville Caverns, and Black Mountain.
As this is the Campgrounds, and attractions section. I figured it would go here. - wbwoodExplorerTerry, does it have trees? The aerial view I saw, I didn't see any. Where did you stay? Near the shop?
- TerryallanExplorer IINo, Most sites aren't really near the shop. At least not as close as it looks on the aerial view. We stayed down in the valley beside the river, (site 9) and there was actually a tree dripping rain water on our TT. But the only trees are along the river. to be honest, we talked about the lack of trees, However. With the new TT, with the slide and all. I don't really mind not having trees over me. I don't have to worry about twiggs, and leaves falling on the slide, or awning. Which may be why there aren't many trees. The grounds are perfectly mowed, and kept up. Even at Julian Price, we get out from under the trees.
You have to bring your own above ground fireplace. The sites along the river are HUGE. Our TT is 31', and of course the truck is pretty long. There was room to pull the truck to the edge of the site, and have about 20' of room between the TT, and TV. The next RV was about 30' away.
I think you would like it. All the sites are paved, and the CG is pretty flat. there is a small breakfast, and lunch grill, and also a lounge with a huge fireplace, and TV. A great place to use as a base camp, Cost 35 per.
AND, IF, you get bored. You can always walk, or drive thru the Rally Park to the dealer ship, bout 1/2 mile away. And look at the new RVs. There are hundreds of them. We rode our bikes over to see Shay's cousin, who is a Salesman there. He still talks to me, even though I didn't buy from him. BUT about a month ago. The started selling APEX TTs.
Having said all that. It may not be a place you want to go in the dead of summer. Unless like our neighbor this weekend, some (not you) may not like driving up the mountain towing, and still want a base camp to get to the BRP, Black Mountain, Linville Caverns, Spruce Pine. Little Switzerland and Linville. It is a very nice campground. - mockybirdExplorerWe love TJ's but I FOR A MOMENT was like Ault wondering what you and zackyboys were saying. especially since TJ's IS in Marion. I Also agree that Jellystone is not a favorite place for me. I like the place but they charge extra for everything you do there.
after wbwood got on here, things starting making more sense LOL....
Terryallen, glad you guys had a good time. The weather at the beach was terrible and we came home a day early and lost 1 night's rental. - wbwoodExplorerSorry you had bad weather Gary. We are down in Florida right now in the Destin area. Spent 3 nights at Topsail and checked I today at Grayton Beach state park. Weather has been awesome. Mid 70s during the day and mid 60s at night.
- Jim_ShoeExplorerIt happens all the time, not just this thread, but adding two more letters for state would let the rest of us know which of the 29 Marions you're talking about. Since we all travel, we're always looking for a good tip, or a bad warning.
