TOM TOM updates!!!

Paper map. Can't go wrong! Update with a new Rand McNalley atlas ever couple years... problem solved! Use GPS on your cell phone!

Well, same thing happened again. I agree. We use paper maps, Microsoft streets and maps, android and Google Earth planning trips. But, GPS is nice especially telling what streets are coming up. Is this the same with all GPS devices?

I have had various Garmin GPS units over the years and currently have the RV 760LMT.

I like to keep my units up to date so I have updated both the device firmware and maps many times. Touch wood but I have never had a problem. The map updates are not fast, they take several hours but they have always worked for me. I always do the updates at home before I leave on a trip. I wouldn't want to try and update them using campground WiFi for example, I think that would be asking for trouble.

Garmin have had several approaches to software updates over the years, their current utility is called Garmin Express and it takes care of everything. It recognizes the device I connect, checks for updates and then installs them.

I am sure there are other Garmin users who have had problems, but that is my experience.

Are you on a wireless connection? I cannot successfully update my Tom Tom when my computer is using a wireless connection. Hard wired to the router and I update just fine.

I have 3 TT's; none are a VIA model, but I have never had a problem when doing an update. It completes the job very quickly. The problem you are having may be due to an "improper" cable connect, or disconnect before TT. You may be able to resolve it with a call to their cust service, or maybe do a TT reset, and try syncing again, with a solid internet connection.

As I said; TomTom for many years, and never a problem yet.

Had a AM/FM/CD/Sirius Radio in the Newmar MH with the detachable TOM TOM
acting also as a display. It was a Fujitsu Eclipse II.
Well,the "Tom Tom" died,called them,no service available,no replacement
available,resetting did not work.So I junked the whole unit and bought a "Kenwood",much happier.
Newer again will I buy a GPS/Radio combined!

Ps,the Tom Tom Software is very ODD,VERY USER UN-FRIENDLY!

I am using a DSL connection on my desktop PC. Agree that update on WIFI or CG service would be more trouble. I am using my laptop for this update. It has been eight hours on latest download and 51% complete on download to PC. Then I understand it loads on the GPS device. Hopefully...

We have a TomTom VIA 1605M RV GPS and I have been able to get updates and download them from our laptop using the parks WIFI with no problem. I just did one two days ago. Ours completed 4 updates in under 30 minutes.

Have you done a reset? Shut it off, then hold power button until you hear the drum roll. Should clear it up. I have the same unit

I think one other thing you could try is to rename the last/latest backup that is on the computer. I have a guess that is one way TT knows if you have completed the update. (I could be wrong, but give it a try).
By the way, the backup is how you should be able to restore to the one you had prior to the update.
Another thing when doing an update, be sure that the screen saver and sleep mode are turned off.
Now to the problem about the number of hours for the install. What does TT say when you contacted them?
TomTom comes out with a full update every 3 months. After that, they have small updates which I never do.
