  • Go take the free camping do not sign for a membership. They will high pressure tag team style. If you can't resist high pressure sales your screwed.

You can probably buy a membership for 1/10th the price from someone wanting to get out of their membership.
  • We agree with Stickdog and Ivylog. We are members of Travel Resorts, Like dummies we succumbed to the sales team 12 years ago, still get notification about "members meeting" another ploy to get you to upgrade your membership. We also belong to 1000 Trails, If you like to travel that would be our first choice, again you can get reduced prices from others selling their memberships. Good Luck and Happy Camping !!!
  • Just like when you do the time share condo thing: a great, inexpensive vacation, but is the 1.5 - 2 hour tag team sales presentation worth it?

There are a several of those membership programs for sale out there. As most have said they are easy to fall for when you are caught up in the moment. When you look at the long term pay out it usually does not happen. Also one needs to understand that once you invest you will always try to utilize the membership to try to make it pay out and locations don't always exist where you are traveling. To us we enjoy the freedom that comes with camping. Go where you want when you want to. There are good savings offered through GoodSam, Passport America etc. In the long run camping where and when you want will usually save you money and you will not have to limit your travels to areas that have the membership locations. Enjoy the freedom of camping!
  • Purchased my trailer from CW in 2009, and got the same offer. Someone finally called me and asked when I was going to take them up on their offer. I explained that we don't do resorts, only campgrounds. They tried to tell me they had lots of things for the kids - I said every state and federal CG that we've been to has some kind of water (river, lake, ocean), and that was all the kids needed. They finally got the hint.
  • We have a membership with Travel Resorts and we really enjoy it. Yes there is a high pressure sales pitch to buy into TRA. I think being able to justify the cost of any membership depends upon how much you can use it. For us it was a pretty easy decision because we only live 20 miles from one of the campgrounds, so we use it all the time. We paid for the membership in camping fees in 3years. But if you can't use the CG's take the free camping and run. Just my thoughts.

There's good and bad with all those types of resorts, and if that's your cup of tea, that's fine. Just be advised you can buy a lot of those memberships on the secondary market for a fraction of the original asking price.
