Topsail Hill State Park FL.

Bummer! Just got call 5:45pm from Reserve America about my two week reservation at Topsail Hill, beginning next week, that the park will be closed until Sunday 21 to evaluate storm damage cleanup. Reservations though, will be fully refunded. Pray that people along the coast from Panama City eastward fare well with minimum damage and have no or few fatalities.
  • I received the same message- for Henderson Beach. Through the 21st as well.

What I don't understand is, Destin has been relatively unscathed, the schools are back in session tomorrow, and live webcams show people on the beach now.

I'm going to call them tomorrow and see if the 21st is still realistic.
  • I wouldn't be surprised if they are pulling personnel from Topsail to help in the parks that are affected. I'm sure that st Andrews, St George, and cape San Blas were hammered by the storm.
  • I think its reasonable to assume that St Andrews, St Joseph and St George may not reopen to camping for many, many months or longer. The damage in those areas was catastrophic.
  • If I heard right, the St Joe Peninsula State Park is no longer on a peninsula. It's now on an island... :(

If they give a date they have a reason. I doubt they'll change it just for you.

I figure a year to get the roads repaired and access restored and another year or two after that before the park is reopened.

The NOAA pictures are stunning, complete destruction except for the 8 cabins and a few concrete bath houses. Walkways and boardwalks are gone, as are the dunes.
