In My opinion None of the Insurance Companies are great. They are All Only in it for the Money.
Of course they're in it for the money. What's wrong with that?If a claim is made, they first go after Your Provincial Medical Plan for reimbursement ,then if that doesn't cover their negotiated costs from the Medical Service Provider ,They pay out from their barrel of Money!
Exactly. Out of province medical insurance is SECONDARY coverage. That's why you have to maintain residency and therefore provincial health insurance. If you stay out of province too long (as many people do), provincial insurance will not pay and purchased travel insurance is worth exactly NOTHING. - Falcon35ExplorerWe have used Sanderson Travel Insurance. They are a Insurance broker and will check a number of companies to see what works best for each person. The had my DW and I with different companies last year.
- sem1Explorer100,000 might cover a hang nail. Its tough to find something with out a Pre condition clause and they all want you to phone for authorization for each step of the illness. They try to take out all the GOLD out of the golden years
- road2002runnerExplorerr-a-the lake - agreed! but what do you do when it is the only game in town.
Save up $100,000.00 and insure yourself ?

In other words, if you omit something or make a mistake on the application, they will still cover you. They are not underwritten by Manulife.
I switched to them after finding out Medipac is underwritten by Manulife. - AlmotExplorer III

I wonder how the quotes would have stacked up for Snowbirds' packages.
They just compared quotes for a senior couple, 2 weeks trip in the US.
Through the comparison sites like Kanetix - and there are others, I know 3 or 4 - you can specify whatever package you want. The review used Kanetix to obtain their results. Dial in the duration of trip, be it 1 day or 6 months, age, destination, and coverage amount. Then, if some plan appeals to you and there is a questionnaire, check the appropriate boxes for your health condition. Most often you will not get an exact quote until after you've checked a lot of boxes.
If you read the review carefully, in few examples they introduced additional variables, to see how the quote changes if there is a health condition or if there is no questionnaire. - sem1ExplorerJust watch out manulife underwrites a lot of the others.Their rep. is bad as seen on w5.
- moishehExplorerAlmot: Thank you for that info. Kanetix is a great site. But that blog ( like most) is useless. Especially for Snowbirds. Not many of us are travelling for 2 weeks! It would be nice to see a site that compared plans for more than just cost. Claim experience is probably more important than cost. Manulife could sell you a policy for $1.00 but if your claim is denied for no apparent reason the insurance is not even worth that $1.00. But that type of comparison is hard to put together. Too many variables. Age and health condition make a huge difference in price. Some policies will not cover those over 60 or 65. World Nomads does not cover those over 60.
