Sadly Tremont Hills Campground has lost us as customers. We've camped with Tremont for many, many years. The rates have gone exceedingly high for 50 amp service (comparable to Fort Wilderness Rates at Walt Disney World). Also the cancellation policy is very expensive and steep (higher than cancelling a condo in Florida...over $100). The cancellation policy is not available for review on website and rates are vague (even 2015 rates posted are inaccurate). What a wonderful place to camp, but unfortunately you have priced yourself out of loyal customers. Disappointing!

Then I would write them a demand letter. Notify the State Attorney General of their state and the better business bureau. I would get screen shots of the site in case it goes down They cannot legally enforce a cancellation policy you are no means of reviewing. On the other hand they know you will not take them to court.Did you put it on a credit card? If so I would protest the charge on your credit card.Also my answer depends on the particulars of your case BUT you just made generalizations. For all I know you cancelled today for tomorrow and they kept your deposit.DETAILS would have been nice. I am always suspicious of people who complain without giving particulars

As we are seasoned campers (esp. with that campground), we are careful to not throw anyone under the 5th wheel unless warranted. Plus we have been members of this forum for over a decade have never posted a negative "vent" or make generalizations. Over $80 per night (not advertised) and lost over $100 deposit. Shame on them 1x...shame on me the next. I believe that is part purpose of the forum is to inform.

On their rules page, it clearly specifies that deposits are non-refundable.

I would have to disagree about posting a vent on rv park reviews. Sure, mention the thing about the rates, but I wouldn't let that bring down my rating based upon the site and amenities.

Most campgrounds raise rates AND have stricter cancellation policies on Holiday weekends. Since you knew (or should have known) the rates and the cancellation policy when you booked it sounds like sour grapes on your part rather than bad business pratices on their part.

I'm not trying to cover for the campground in anyway but the working managers not to mention any names are customers of mine and her husband passed with cancer earlier this year. This could be some of the issues with the website and not being updated. They ran a great campground and I hope someone steps in and helps resolve the issues.

When you say their website doesn't have their current rates, or their cancellation policy, Im not sure that is a violation of anything per se... Nothing says you have to maintain an updated website. Poor business, yup.

Now, if you made a reservation and they don't disclose the rate to you (over the phone or whatever), and they don't disclose the cancellation policy over the phone or email etc.. that's another thing.

If they don't have current rates on the web, I sure wouldn't make reservations via the web.

Thanks for the post. We usually camp in the KOA next door to Tremont, but it's good to have info about the alternatives.

I take it, you did not see on their home page.(the contact us, postage stamp looking icon?)

I just looked at their web site and see that it still shows the 2015 rates. In addition, their blog has not been updated since 2014, and their Facebook page since December 2015. Was there a change of owners?

With in-laws in their 90's and the possibility of needing to cancel at a moments notice we really look at cancellation policies. Tremont looks nice but we always go down the road to the KOA because of the more lenient cancellation policy.

Apparently, you reserved a site for Labor Day weekend and just now canceled but they kept your $100 deposit. That is a very poor business practice. You should get very aggressive about reporting them in internet venues as well as with governing authorities. Also, contest the charge on your card.
