Just came off this trip. Got their about 3:30 pm or so on Wednesday. Immediately hit the laurel ridge section and the only spot available for us had the picnic table and "open space" on the side opposite of where the door would be. Kinda strange. Went to the little brook spur and found that place mostly empty. Spot #8 looked good and there we were. Had great weather, good leaf colors, and lots of friendly neighbors. This very quickly became our favorite campground.
As a side note, we did make a visit to Amicolola Falls State Park only to visit the campground and see if its worth adding to the list (we've seen the falls before). After the very steep 25% grade, we came to the small and quite frankly not too attractive campground. It didn't take long to cross this one off the list.
