- VinnyPExplorerI live in The Bronx and would go with Croton Point Park. It's a nice place and only 30 or 40 minutes from The Bronx. No bridges to cross and no tolls to pay. There is also a Metro North station just outside the campground.
Good luck and have a good time. - Up_DownDeCoastExplorer

I lived on Long Island 9 years. There is no direct train service between LI and the Bronx, everything goes into Manhattan. This would require additional travel on the subway system to get up to the Bronx from Manhattan. In addition to the near hour ride on the Long Island Rail Road(commuter train), you have another 45-60 minute ride on the subway. Driving to the Bronx from LI is also horrible most times due to traffic as well as the additional toll ($5.00) on Throgs Neck or Whitestone bridges. - michelbExplorerWe've stayed at county parks on Long Island and taken the commuter train in (to Manhattan but I'm guessing you could get to the Bronx too) which worked well.
- John_S_Explorer III would also say Crotin on the Hudson. I have stayed at both a number of times each…

Your best bet would be Croton Point Park. Its run by Westchester County and located about 30 miles north of The Bronx. This is a highly rated park that is quiet and peaceful (google "Croton Point Park"). Full hookups and close to the train station if you want to train it to the city. Pretty much a straight shot if your driving as well. Just don't get caught in the weekday rush hour, mornings to the city and evenings from the city.
I grew up in Westchester County, just north of the Bronx. This is the closest CG to the Bronx. Liberty Harbor is on the wrong end of the city to conveniently get to the Bronx.

Google map - LindaDExplorerThere's a campground on Long Island called Battle Row it's in Old Bethpage and about 30 miles from the Bronx. I've never stayed there, drove through several years ago though, seemed okay for a short stay.

I would suggest either northwest New Jersey, which would leave you about 50-60 miles from New York with access to the Bronx via the George Washington Bridge, or somewhere in the Hudson Valley going toward Newburgh, N.Y., which gives you access to the Bronx via the New York Thruway and the Tappen Zee Bridge. Either way, it will cost less to drive your car into the city rather than cross the Hudson River with your MH, and both locations make for an easy getaway to Johnson City, which if I recall is near Bighamton.
