- brinasmemawExplorerIf you are traveling I35, going through Hillsboro Texas a great place not too far off your path is Texas Great Country Café. It is located at the intersection of Hwy 22 (Bosque St) & Hwy 933 (Colorado St) in Whitney Texas, which is about 12 miles west of the interstate. The address is 903 S Bosque. They only have a small sign so watch for it on the southwest corner. From the outside the place looks very small so if the parking lot has a lot of cars in it don't let that scare you off, it is bigger than it looks. They have excellent home cooked meals with a huge menu to choose from and a variety of homemade pies & other desserts. I highly recommend this place for any meal if you are in the area. They are open from 6am-9pm. We ate at this place numerous times when we had to be in that area on business. Check it out.
- John_S2ExplorerWow,, sounds like lots of great options. My DW does like Blue Bell ice cream!
- 2112Explorer IIEl Charro's in Hondo. The best Caldo De Res I have ever tasted.
We stock up the frig with caldo, enchiladas and caso when passing through.
Rudy & Paco's in Galveston, this is Brazilian
Jay's in Needville, home cook'in like no other.
If you find yourself on the San Antonio river walk, the tortilla soup at Casa Rio. Everything else is OK but I love their tortilla soup.
Grimandi's pizza in San Antonio. It's not tex-mex or BBQ but dang good pizza.
There is a restaurant in Helotes next to a famous dance hall that serves a five star steak. I can't remember the name of either but I can get there by auto pilot. The locals will know what your asking for. - campiglooExplorerRudy's BBQ near San Antonio. They advertise themselves as "world's worst bbq". A must is BlueBell Ice Cream plant in Brenham, near College Station. If you can't make it to the plant, most any self respecting grocery store in Texas will have it. Try it, you'll never brag on Ben & Jerry's again.
- John_S2ExplorerSounds like some great spots for Tex-Mex and Bar-B-Que.....

- Mountain_MamaExplorerLos Amigos, Bonham, TX (closed on Sunday) Best Tex Mex in north Texas!! They have the best queso I've ever eaten!!
Cappy's Cafe also in Bonham has great home cooked daily buffet with different menu daily. I believe they are only open for lunch daily but add breakfast buffet on weekends.
The Dairy Queen in Whitewright, TX has the best burger around! The owner is on site much of the time & runs a tight ship! - daily_doubleExplorerWe like to use Yelp when we hit a new town>
- Roy_LynneExplorerWhen we hit a new town, I always use google maps to help find a restaurant, and rarely have I been disappointed.
