In our many years as tent campers, we have often stayed in state parks. I'd love to hear your favorites and why. Also name the state where it is located. Here are a few of mineMinnesota:Gooseberry Falls State Park - beautiful park on the north shore of Lake Superior with amazing views of a great waterfall. Judge CR Magney State Park - the farthest north park with camping on the north shore of Lake Superior. Less busy than the parks closer to Duluth. Great waterfalls!More states later!

My vote would be Kodachrome Basin State Park, in Utah -- in almost any other state, it would be a national park:

Ditto on Ricketts Glen Sp in Pa. No hookups but decent bath house and water hydrants. You can run generator during the day. You have to be in decent shape to do the falls trail but it is very nice.

Huntington Beach Sp South Carolina.

Catalina State Park here in Tucson, AZ is just 30 minutes from my house. It's a great place to go hike and camp!

I will have to second the Red Rock Canyon State Park, in California.
Since I also have a JEEP, a lot to explore, this area is Ideal.
I can just go across the road, drop into 4WD, and explore the old mines, ghost towns, and do some rock hounding. My Wife and I also have horses, so this area, ( although the park won't allow them) is perfect for riding. We must just keep the horses out of the campground proper, so we camp up in or near Randsburg.

After Kodachrome, my second-favorite state park is Humboldt Redwoods, in Northern California -- this shot was taken in the Bull Flats area. There is a cliff that overlooks a grove of old-growth trees -- I stood on the cliff and DW clambered down into the grove. The sun peeked out from behind a cloud and put a spotlight on her at just the right moment:

I am in the process of seeing all the Minnesota state parks. I can say I have a lot that are my favorite and a few that don't offer what I am looking for. Lots of walking trails and second a chance to canoe. It's also seasonal preference. Middle of winter Saint Croix state park.
Bear Head Lake in Ely Minnesota is a favorite off season when fewer people are around. Mystery Cave is a favorite of my grandkids.

Plenty of the people reading this thread and looking at Vermilye's beautiful pictures, are simply wondering why they should go to so much bother, compared to camping at Walmart.
