What places to visit our west!?? Must know

We are planning a trip out west next summer. Rockies, South Dakota, Yellowstone, those sorts of places. Just wondering if anyone has campground suggestions and/or attractions we must see while out there. Please let us know
  • I would visit Glacier NP. In a few years those glaciers will be gone. Fortunately I saw glacier at Mt Ranier. It is gone now. Park is there but no glacier.

I prefer WY. Guess it is because we live here near Cody. Lots of great places to camp.
  • You kids outta make a stop in Glacier NP at Lake McDonald.
Even if you haven't much time there it's worth a stay.
Waterton is just stones throw above there also.

I guarantee you won't forget the sites.
Have fun...wave if you get over this far!
  • KOA near the west entrance to Glacier Nat'l Park in Montana. Grizzly RV park in West Yellowstone. Both are fine parks.
  • 2 weeks total travel time from where? Aurora can be in several different states. Realistically, if you are from Aurora, Illinois, 2 weeks will allow you a few days in Yellowstone with 1-2 days in the Black Hills enroute, and that's all. If you're from Aurora, NY, you'll have enough time to get out to Yellowstone and turn around & head for home. If you're from Aurora, Colorado, that timeframe will allow a little more time. You'll still need to choose between northern parks (Yellowstone/Grand Teton, Glacier) and southern ones (Arches/Canyonlands, Zion, Bryce, Grand Canyon) - and those in between (Rocky Mountain, Mesa Verde). You won't be able to include all of them in any less than 2 months time, IMO.
  • We prefer to stay IN the national parks for the best experience and best scenery. All of the western national parks are outstanding, in our opinion. Just pick your route and go for it! If you're 62+ be sure to purchase the Senior Pass which will give you 1/2 off on camping fees (if a campground has electric you will pay for that as an extra) and free admission to the parks. It's good for national forest campgrounds, too. Have fun planning and plan to take as much time as you can.

  • If you make it to Southern Utah, Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park. Bring a camera with you. Simply stunning.
  • Wrights Beach, Sonoma Coast State Beaches, Bodega Bay, California
