Lexington has some of the top racing stables in the US. It was the home of Secretariat and other great horses.
Louisville is the home of Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby. It has a wonderful museum - interactive with lots of things for kids and adults.
Don't forget, Louisville is the birthplace of Muhammed Ali and the home of the Muhammed Ali museum. If you're into baseball, Louisville is the home of the Louisville Slugger and the Louisville Slugger museum.
