What I like best, and try to explain, is that we can spend the night alongside things like Devils Tower or Chaco Canyon ruins that are out in the middle of NO-where, USA. (Or Canada.) No hotels for miles around. And wake up to amazing sights while drinking our coffee. We've learned a lot more about our country by RVing than we ever did in a classroom, and find it much more fascinating after a lifetime of experiences.
But I have relatives with plenty of time and money who fly in and spend one day on a tour at Yellowstone, then leave for somewhere else. At least they leave home once in a while. Some of the others barely do. I think it has to do with curiosity about what's out there, and a desire to stay long enough to soak it up.
