We use ours more as a rolling hotel room. We will need or want to travel somewhere for whatever reason. I'll locate a nice "home base" within 50 miles or so in that area. It could be a state park, national forest, KOA or private campground. Show up the day before, relax, head out the next day to whatever brought us there.
Had a nieces birthday party in Nacogdoches last month (parked at Lake Livingston SP), had a cousins birthday party in San Marcos last week (parked at Palmetto SP in Luling), have a BIL wedding in Waco next month (will park at Speegleville park on Lake Waco). We stay at a small town city park to visit MIL often.
We used to 'camp' more and run up and down the Texas coast fishing when kids were young but they all moved out and we have other things to do now.
